Working with preconceived assumptions

There was a site with both old and new construction at a house. We visited the old site and took the measurements for both areas but we assumed that the new construction area would be smooth with new undulations. But there was a lot of undulation in the walls and ceiling in the new construction. In such a case, we cannot put two coats of putty and solve the undulation problem. We can’t even put on 3 coats. It is not enough.

    • There has to be some POP punning work that has to be done on the undulation.
    • I told them that this is extra work and so we will have to charge extra.
    • Then the customer got upset and said that we promised we would do it at the same rate.
      • I explained to the customer that we didn’t examine the new construction area – so we had not yet checked for undulations and she was okay with it.
